Owner & Trainer
I began my journey with horses at just three years old when my father would take me to Safford to ride with family friends. When I was ten, I convinced my parents that if my sister and I saved up the money ourselves, we could buy our own horse. We found Jupiter, an old grey Quarter horse, in the newspaper classifieds. Jupiter was a saint of a horse who graciously and tolerantly introduced us to the world of horses. I began taking lessons and showing in Saddleseat at the age of ten. At sixteen, I started working at the barn to pay for my lessons, and in the process, gained a wealth of knowledge about horse care and teaching. Under the guidance of my trainer, I started instructing at the age of eighteen. After nine years of coaching students as an apprentice and assisting in the care and training of lesson and show horses, I managed a lesson program in Oro Valley. After learning the economic side of the business, I opened my own lesson & training program in 2019. I began my dressage education with successful rider and trainer Laura DeCesari in 2018 and continue to ride and learn with her weekly. In recent years, I've fallen completely in love with French Classical Dressage and hope to share this horse-first approach to riding with anyone who wishes to learn.
Instructor
Though I was too young to remember my first ride, I do know it ignited my lifelong passion for horses. Living in a remote mountain town, formal lessons weren't an option, so my grandmother found a horse trainer with a trusted old mare for me to ride. Within a year, the joy and freedom I felt cantering with her were unforgettable. As I've grown and gotten the opportunities to learn I've discovered along the way that the only feeling better than sitting in the saddle myself is teaching others and seeing them find the same freedom and joy!
As I grew, I sought every chance to ride, yet I missed the connection I'd had with that old mare. Despite trying dressage, the connection remained elusive. I read extensively across different authors and disciplines, but struggled to bridge the gap. Then, I witnessed Légèreté in practice during an out-of-town clinic. For the first time, what I heard matched what I saw: a patient, understanding form of riding that resembled art and partnership more than anything I'd seen before. I was hooked. After that clinic, I knew I could never return to my former way of riding.
